Volunteering Experience

Activities Officer of Children’s Holiday Venture (CHV) volunteering, committee role

Sep 2023 – Feb 2024 in Edinburgh, Scotland

  • CHV is an Edinburgh-based children's charity, established in 1963, supporting Edinburgh's local children, who are referred by schools, social workers, and GPs, through providing them fully-funded bi-weekly recreational activities, aiming to foster their confidence, emotional wellbeing, and social skills. (CHV website: https://childrensholidayventure.com/)

  • As a head of activity planners, I organized meetings, managed the activities budget, created online calendars and documents that helped the activity planners plan for their groups and share ideas with each other, negotiated discounts with external venues, attended committee meetings, organized and managed digital documents and physical cupboards, making sure the activity sessions run smoothly.

Activity Planner at Children’s Holiday Venture (CHV) volunteering

Sep 2022 – May 2023 in Edinburgh, Scotland

I planned, prepared, and organized bi-weekly activities and day trips for my group of 11 children between the ages of 9 - 15 (mostly 9 - 10 years old). The main jobs were to make activities engaging within a limited budget by knowing the children, incorporating flexibility in activities, working within the given time of each activity session, negotiating discounts, planning logistics, looking after children during the activities, considering potential risks involved, and cooperating with other volunteers in the group.

We also spent a day together at Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) where P5 and P7 students and some ECA students, including myself, worked together in a workshop to make a large-scale mapping of figures collaboratively.
