Lisa Iwanaga (b.2001) is a multicultural body with a curious heart drawn to people, artmaking, and education.
As a mixed-media artist, her art practice reflects these perspectives and the process of learning about them while navigating own curiosity and inviting others to join in the process. Explorations of intangible warmth and connection within oneself and between people are recurring concepts.
Happened to be born in Beijing, Lisa first visited her home country, Japan, as a 3-month-old. Growing up in a Japanese household, she has moved between Tokyo (Japan), Beijing (China), and Edinburgh (Scotland), experiencing diverse schooling systems and immersing herself in varied cultural norms, expectations, values, languages, environments, and people.
Lisa’s art practice is mixed media, often evolving into installations, activities, and performative actions. She involves herself as ‘one body of presence’ and encourages others’ participation through active engagement and observation.
Her works are reflective and poetic in approach, playful and curious in engagement.
